Workshop
- September 8–10, 2025
- Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Casa Central, Valparaíso, Chile
Chile's microbial richness, driven by its diverse ecosystems. offers an invaluable resource for research. From the discovery of new species to the development of cutting‑edge biotechnological applications, studying this diversity unlocks countless opportunities. Bacteria from these environments play a central role: characterizing native strains not only deepens our understanding of Chile's biodiversity, but also paves the way for innovations such as bioactive compound discovery and the bioremediation of degraded habitats.
We warmly invite undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early‑career scientists to join us for this three‑day workshop. Over September 8, 9, and 10, you will engage in both theoretical and practical sessions, including:

Keynote lectures on microbial taxonomy and biotechnological applications
Hands‑on workshops
Poster sessions for students and young researchers
A roundtable on regulatory frameworks and policies to boost R&D in Chile
Distinguished international speakers will share their expertise:

Dr. Edward R.B. Moore, Culture Collection University of Gothenburg (CCUG), Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg

Dr. Alesia Tietze, University of Gothenburg

Dr. Yvonne Mast, Leibniz‑Institut DSMZ – Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen (DSMZ)

Dr. Tony Gutierrez, Heriot‑Watt University
Spots are limited, so we encourage you to register early. Those interested in presenting a poster may submit abstracts by July 30, 2025. Participation is free of charge.
We look forward to exploring Chile's microbial frontier together!
