International Workshop
Exploring Chilean Microbial Diversity: New Taxa and Their Biotechnological Applications
- September 8–10, 2025
- Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Casa Central, Valparaíso, Chile
Chile's microbial richness, driven by its diverse ecosystems, offers invaluable resource for research. From the discovery of new species to the development of advanced biotechnological applications, studying this biodiversity opens new avenues. Microorganisms from these environments play a central role: characterizing native strains not only deepens our understanding of Chile's biodiversity but also fosters innovations such as bioactive compound discovery and the bioremediation of degraded habitats.
We warmly invite undergraduates, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and early‑career scientists to join us for this three‑day workshop. Over September 8, 9, and 10, you will engage in both theoretical and practical sessions, including:

Keynote lectures on microbial taxonomy and biotechnological applications.
Hands‑on laboratories.
Poster sessions for students and young researchers.
A roundtable on regulatory frameworks and policies to boost R&D in Chile.
Distinguished international speakers will share their expertise:

Dr. Edward R.B. Moore
Culture Collection University of Gothenburg (CCUG), Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, Gothenburg, Sweden.

Dr. Alesia Tietze
