Dr. Michael Seeger inaugurates doctoral academic year at UFRO and strengthens joint work

During his stay, he reinforced collaboration between both host institutions and shared research advances under the project with future specialists in the field.
In late April, USM academic and director of the Millennium Nucleus for Bioproducts, Genomics and Environmental Microbiology (BioGEM), Dr. Michael Seeger, visited the University of La Frontera (UFRO) to deliver the keynote lecture on biodiversity, biotechnology, and bioeconomy, marking the start of the academic year for the Doctorate in Natural Resources Sciences, led by Dr. Francisco Matus.
During his visit, Dr. Seeger engaged with first and second-year students of the Doctorate program, as well as faculty members, inspiring them with the progress and applications of research conducted by BioGEM. "It was a solemn and distinguished event, where I aimed to motivate students with the achievements and future projections of our Nucleus", he emphasized.
Additionally, the academic used his stay to meet with faculty members such as Professors Francisco Matus, María Cristina Diez, and María de La Luz Mora, and to tour UFRO's laboratories and facilities alongside Dr. Francisca Acevedo, deputy director of the Nucleus and UFRO academic, to coordinate new collaborative initiatives.
In this context, he met with the research team of the Laboratory of Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Bioproducts, composed of postdoctoral scientists, graduate, and undergraduate students, to analyze progress and future joint research lines.
"It was a highly productive opportunity. We shared experiences, research results, and projected new initiatives under the Millennium Nucleus BioGEM, fostering communication and dialogue", stated Dr. Acevedo.
For his part, Dr. Seeger highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration between both institutions, noting that "we envision continued joint efforts, both in the La Araucanía Region and in Valparaíso".
This visit reinforces ties between UFRO and USM, host institutions of the Millennium Nucleus BioGEM, and solidifies their commitment to interdisciplinary research, human capital development, and community engagement.
